The fast pace of life and our constant connection to technology can leave many of us feeling drained, so it’s excellent that June marks the start of National Great Outdoors Month. Nature has something to offer everyone, whether you like hiking, fishing, or just taking in some fresh air. The goal is to inspire more people to venture outside, take in the beautiful landscapes on their doorstep and draw inspiration from their surroundings. Whether it be by just going for a walk or a run outside or by participating in volunteer programs that are set up during this month as the weather starts to warm up. In this blog, Make Austin Clean has put together some ideas of how to plan to participate in National Great Outdoors Month and explore all that nature has to offer, getting the most out of your local area and everything you can see and do!
Take Part in Events
Plenty of different events are happening around Austin this month as part of National Great Outdoors Month. Explore Austin is hosting events on the 6th and 8th of June, and these events include a happy hour, a panel discussion about inclusivity in the great outdoors, and a kid-friendly program with interactive activities. These are a great way to meet new people and learn more about the great outdoors while also participating in healthy activities and having a bit of fun!
Spend time outside
This one is pretty self-explanatory, but spending just 30 minutes a day outside can improve your mood, provide an opportunity for some exercise and help boost your mental health. There are many places you can go to get some fresh air; with access to 489 parks in Austin, there is no shortage of green space in our beautiful city. You could also go for a walk or a bike ride and explore the natural world around you and even somewhere you haven’t been before.
